about

As the new century began, and at the same time as dragging up the past by revisiting working and hacking away at Electric Church tracks ‘Black Jesus’ and ‘Barcelona’ (to be renamed Amerikana) I took time out to write several new tracks of which only this one made the grade. Scene: The honeymoon period for Tory Blair was well and truly over. As a leading light in the local Labour Movement (councillor) I saw first-hand what New Labour looked like with the mask ripped off. I was one of those who had been tugging at it for some time and would shortly go independent which is truth be told all I’ve ever been since day one. Prior to that oh happy day (when others in the party were saying I’m leaving on moral grounds re: war in Iraq I quit because by and large my comrades were a bunch of self-serving c*nts – there’s no point glossing over the truth disingenuously) I was openly critical of a party I only continued to serve because as a good friend told me: “Whilst you’re in you can help curb some of their worst excesses.” That is true to a point as once elected Blair wanted to ditch the party’s manifesto pledge to ban foxhunting. That was kept from public ears ….but it’s kinda lonely pointing out the obvious to those who have neither eyes to see or ears to hear. So, I let it rip in tune. I took hold of an old backing track Sean had supplied a lifetime ago, stuck Dan Gotts fat fucked up distorted guitar on and because at the end of the day this is, well to me anyway, a bit of a laugh…music is NOT to be taken seriously surely… I went and slapped on another sample, from ‘Diamond Dogs’ no less and not giving a damn wove it into the edgy synth intro which works so well I can’t to this day tell where the sample ends and my input begins. See if you can (lol). Bitter words, samples from classic kids TV and spat out hate speech were followed by Sieg heil Tony Blair chants and a nuclear explosion. This is uncomfortable listening. Venting one’s spleen was never as nasty. Unreleased to this day!

lyrics

With a barcode on my backside and a chip in my dick,
I'll fast become just another of your cheap tricks.
But you don't fool us your time has come.
What have you done for me?
Given the dog a bone?
Driven the wife to Madagascar?
put the mother-in-law in a home?
You ain't no angel just some great corporate whore.
A thing of great evil.
What are you looking for?

There is a light that never goes out x2

What have you done for me?
What are you looking for?
A place in history or some way to even up the score?

There is a light that never goes out (repeat)

With a barcode on my backside and a chip in my dick,
I'll fast become just another of your cheap tricks.
But you don't fool us your time has come.

Behind the scenes of power you make your play.
Terrorists are paraded each and every day,
to strike fear and distract us from your insanity.
What are you looking for?
A place in history?

Sieg Heil Tony Blair (repeat to fade)
