WMTID – ‘THE PRINCE IS DEAD!’
RICHARD ROUSKA v LUCIFER, MORNING STAR
Some people seek priests, others shrinks. Many are in denial and have lost their way. Far too many haven’t a clue why they’re here let alone how they arrived at a point when the best years are behind them. Life’s precious moments pass so many by without a care. And whilst many of his peers are polishing their silver, flicking through their Shackleton’s catalogue and recalling the time when… (through a Vallium induced haze) Richard is stalking the Prince of Darkness himself. There’s only one door to lay the shit of the world at…Lucifer’s. Richard has his black trench coat on and murder in his heart. The Prince must die! Fear…and only fear can stop him.
Musically ‘The Prince Is Dead’ rips aside the veil between this world and the great beyond. Death Disco fills the void. The Prince is a riptide of rivet driven bass, troll fisting synth and gull throttling vocals where we witness Richard vying with his various alter egos for centre stage. It gets bloody…it gets messy. This is DEATH DISCO!
Towards the end Satan gets in on the act, engaging in a demonic piece of thespianism, selectively quoting Wilde…
“In war the strong make slaves of the weak, and in peace the rich make slaves of the poor. We must work to live, and they give us such mean wages that we die. We toil for them all day long, and they heap up gold in their coffers, and our children fade away before their time, and the faces of those we love become hard and evil. We have chains, though no eye beholds them; and are slaves, though men call us free.”
(From ‘The Young King’ by Oscar Wilde)
The previous single ‘Zombie Girl’ is still receiving interesting plaudits. Brenny from The Three Johns affectionally described it as Frank Sidebottom meets ABC. Another alikened RR to being the Tony Yeboah of the music biz. Another thought I should stick darning needles in my knees. Plays on bandcamp were positive with the majority of listeners listening right to the 5 minute end. If I’d charged for the download I would be eating out all next week but also be facing several charges of soliciting with intent. There’s always a price to pay.
Back in the mid-eighties Richard ran Rouska Records. The two that sold in their thousands and actually made the label money are ironically the only two releasing music today. They are The Cassandra Complex (who have just released their umpteenth album, ‘The Plague’) and Richard’s own outfit…you’ve guessed it WMTID!

lyrics

Now the time has come
Now the time is near
Putting on my black trench coat
Nothing more to fear
Now I’ve taken all my pills
Now I beg to die
It was now so so so long ago
I can’t remember why and

All the people around me
All the people around me go
All the people around me
All the people around me know

Now my course is run
Where did my people go?
I won’t touch another drop no
Get my chairs all in a row
Not all will be cleansed
Not all will be saved
My weary heart will always roam
While the people are still slaves

Now my ambition has gone
The mighty Kings tears flow
The great silence means we’re all alone
With the Black Prince on the throne
Now the time has come
Now the time is near
Putting on my black trench coat
With nothing more to fear

All the people around me
All the people around me go
All the people around me
All the people around me know
