The Great Dictator (Remix)

about

This is a lightly embellished revision from that which appeared on the second album (which we don’t like to talk about) ‘Pale Saint’. Iziah was blasted, I was so blasted…lets return to that Nazi theme again la la la. For one who is so so damn anti-Nazi I fear I must have some fixation with the whole thing. It’s not the wearing black gig I just like wearing black to mirror the way I feel on the outside to quote Morrissey and prove that not all that falls from his lips is poisonous pro-right-wing rhetoric. I guess I just really like throwing this shit back in people’s faces…never forget and all that and with good reason. We take hold of their icons and filth; own and dilute it. Yes, it’s that classic anti-fascist, governments by their very nature serve to disappoint speech by Charlie Chaplin in the classic gun in cheek film The Great Dictator. I guess Charlie got sick of being told he bore a passing resemblance to Adolf and decided to own the joke.
‘The Great Dictator’ musically once again errs on the lighter side of WMTID. The contradiction is always with me; to be or not to be a poptart or venomous cynic aka trying to find a bloody hit whilst shouting down the whole concept of hitsville from the collective Mini Caldwell back to back rooftops.

lyrics

My people live for the day to make themselves stronger.
And in their own special way they'll live for much longer.
The stupid questions they all ask.
we're fighting now for the truth.

I hope it helps you sleep nights.
The morphine and the vodka.
Oh no.

The wife who made breakfast in bed had cooked the golden goose.
And somewhere on the plate now fried eggs, bills and cold turkey.
It can now never be the same.
What more do you want than the truth?

I hope it gives you sleepless nights.
The McDonalds and the vodka.

My people live for the day.
They can take it or leave it.
Perhaps i shall never know the last days of Rome.
And God shall wipe away all tears, the chatshows and their hosts.
And will you still carry me home, take care of my bloody nose.

Charlie...

My people live for this day.
Can't hold on any longer.
And in their own special way they'll become much stronger.
The stupid questions they all ask.
we're fighting now for the truth.

I hope it helps you sleep nights.
The morphine and the vodka.

It can now never be the same.
What more do you want than the truth?

I hope it gives you sleepless nights.
The McDonalds and the vodka.

Oh no.
