about

Having spent too much time in the studio over preceding years and getting none the wiser in respect of how to write a good tune (and hey why bother?.. be an abbreviation…be industrial n’tap into the sweaty and bulging new European techno industrial minimalist postpunk disco row scene) I employed samples as shots across the bows whilst others chose to gate into the rhythm in a happy pop way that would feign rap and acid credentials but their only reason to exist was to score a hit. What I/we did was for perverse pleasure more than anything else. Instinct says create a dysfunctional electro beat, reverse feed loops and slap on the most sampled sample of popular culture in the last 100 years: Martin Luther King taking us to the top of the mountain.
This sample sat well with me as a reminder of how detestable racism is. Beyond that I/we are not blindsided by the sycophantic facile BS the US government (all governments) spew out. So, to add weight to that point on the cover artwork I slapped a swastika on good old Uncle Sam which got the album banned in Germany. Our label boss must have done one as copies which were on high demand there were recoiled, and stickers placed over the offending artwork. So, the law was way back in 1989 (44 years post WWII) that you were not allowed to use the swastika in any, even an anti-Nazi context. I get it but Christ these guys were the forerunners of the petty bourgeoise censors on facebook!
This updated version city of B’ Jesus isn’t an Irish jig but a more pulverised industrialised cut up chopped up maimed and erratic version blessed with the detuned gittar work of Dan Gott remixed in York a decade later. Better late… I just couldn’t leave well alone doh!
